Tipis at Riley Green
Wedding Videographer
Documentary films at The Tipis at Riley Green, Hoghton, Preston.
A tipi wedding is built around personality.
There's a character to The Tipis at Riley Green that's hard to find elsewhere. The setting is open, the layout is flexible, and the day takes whatever shape the couple wants it to. No fixed floor plan pulling everyone from room to room on a schedule. The day breathes, people settle in early, and the real moments tend to surface sooner. That kind of environment suits documentary filming well.
The venue itself sits just outside Hoghton, on the edge of Preston in Lancashire. There's a looseness to tipi weddings that suits documentary filming well. No fixed programme pulling everyone from room to room. The day breathes a bit more, people relax a bit earlier, and the real moments tend to surface sooner. That's exactly the kind of environment I work best in.
With the right crew in place, you also get full coverage from the start. When Laura and Brett got married here, Alex joined as second shooter. He spent the morning with Brett while I was with Laura. By the time both groups arrived at the venue, we already had the full story from both sides before the ceremony had even started.

A Tipis at Riley Green wedding I’ve filmed
Laura & Brett
The Tipis at Riley Green, Hoghton, Preston
Laura's brief was simple. She wanted to celebrate properly, without feeling like the camera was following her everywhere. Everything captured as it happened, nothing staged. That's exactly how I work, and with Alex alongside me as second shooter it meant both sides of the morning were covered from the start. Below is the teaser. The full feature film follows later.
The film opens with a guest using my handycam. Completely unplanned. What made it even better was finding out who it was. Lucy and Rhys, one of the first couples who ever hired me when I was just starting out, were guests at the wedding. They'd recommended me to Laura and Brett, and there was Lucy, handycam in hand, filming the opening moments without a word of direction from me. It was great to catch up with them both, and what they captured in those first few seconds is one of the most personal things in the whole film. You can't plan for that kind of moment.
The day moved fast and didn't let up. DFC kept the entertainment going for most of it, including a saxophonist who seemed to appear at exactly the right moments. Laura had arranged a fire breather as a surprise for Brett, who had no idea it was coming. In the afternoon there was axe throwing, which turned competitive quickly. Light showers came in and cleared just as fast, the sun came back and the party carried on. Throughout the edit I kept as much of the natural audio as possible. The sound of the crowd, the music from the floor, the ambient noise of a room full of people genuinely having a good time. It pulls you back into the day in a way that music alone doesn't.
What Laura & Brett said
You were just incredible from start to finish. We loved our day and loved the fact we got to be part of every second of it. Thank you for being so wonderful.
Laura, the morning after the wedding
When we watch it we feel like it brings us back in the moment of our wedding. Bloody love it. We honestly had the best day, so much love mixed with so much fun.
